Kick-Off Meeting of the Fortaleciendo la Inteligencia Artificial Latinoamericana Project

On June 17–18, I participated in the kick-off meeting of the FiatLatam project in Madrid, Spain.

The initiative aims to bring together researchers and institutions to advance the development of inclusive generative AI technologies for Spanish and Portuguese, with particular attention to the linguistic varieties spoken across Latin America and the Caribbean.

During the meeting, alongside initiatives led by CENIA and the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC), our team presented an overview of the Brazilian LLM ecosystem and shared ongoing work being developed in collaboration with researchers from the University of São Paulo (USP), São Paulo State University (UNESP), and the University of Campinas (Unicamp).

The event marked an important step toward strengthening international collaborations aimed at developing AI technologies that better reflect the linguistic, cultural, and societal diversity of our region.

We are grateful to C4AI, BSC, AECID, and the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the invitation and for organizing this initiative. We also thank our colleagues from EuroHPC, the Secretary of State, and our collaborators at CENIA for the valuable discussions and exchanges throughout the meeting.
